Key Club Takeover
November 10th!

Sequoia Key Club turns the tables on the sponsoring Kiwanis club by taking over the morning meeting of Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis.

Sequoia Key Club News

September was the month in which Sequoia High School’s Key Club truly got its start for the 2005-2006 fiscal Key Club year.

On September 17, the Kiwanis of Redwood City let our club set up two tables at the Redwood City Farmers Market. We asked people for donations in order to help the Hurricane Katrina Relief. We made bracelets which were to be given to people who donated $5 or more. This event was a huge success, especially for our first fundraising event of the year! We raised a total of $242!!!

Nine of our members attended the September DCM where we made dolls for children, who are undergoing surgery to correct their cleft lips, to use and keep with them while they are in the hospital. The project was called ‘Operation Smile’ and together with the dolls we put together fun activity books and markers in order for the kids to keep preoccupied and not worry about the surgery. Sequoia would like to thank Fremont High School’s Key Club for organizing such a wonderful project and hosting the DCM.

Our club assisted our sponsoring Woodside Terrace AM Kiwanis club in their efforts to organize a rummage sale on September 24 in order to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina Relief. These key clubbers helped to set up the items for sale, sell the items, and even purchased some items. The Kiwanis club was very grateful for our support.

We had two board meetings this month which proved to be very beneficial for the organization of our club and the cohesiveness of its officers. We look forward to the fundraisers that we have been discussing during our board meetings. A special thanks to LtG Andrew for attending our September 12th board meeting. He was really helpful in answering any questions we had.

We have already ordered and received our UNICEF boxes and have begun to plan for Fall Rally North. VP Tessa has created and been updating a spreadsheet for events, who attended, and member hours. We hope to award the member with the most hours at the end of each month with a prize. This will serve as an incentive for staying active in Key Club.

Nicole Kahle, a former Sequoia Key Club president (who served as such for two years), a former member of the United States navy, and a current Kiwanis member has begun to attend our meetings regularly in order to help us with anything that we might need help with. Her previous knowledge and experience with Key Club has proven to be a big help already, as she has suggested to our club to adopt an army platoon and will be attending RTC in October with us.  Welcome to our club Nicole!

We look forward to more fundraising, RTC, Fall Rally North, and attracting more members!!!

Yours,
Allyson Hillerby
