Walt Butler Memorial Scholarship was presented to Joseph Thomas from Woodside High School. Woodside Terrace A.M. Kiwanis awarded Lucia Carini graduating from Notre Dame High School. Vaden & Geri Mayers Community Service Scholarship went to Adena Miller from Woodside High School.  Phil & Louise Wang Scholarships were granted to Heidi Soto and Jeremy Jung both graduating from Woodside High School; John Catulpi from Bellarmine College Preparatory; Shannon Marie Klebe from Notre Dame High School; and Bridget Mason from Carlmont High School.  Yamada Family Scholarships were granted to Cassandra Ligh, Ana Valencia, and Christy Williams, all graduating from Sequoia High School.  Bogart Family Scholarship went to Ginelle Curincita from Sequoia High School.  Charles and Jean Rigg Scholarship was awarded to Scott Norton from Sacred Heart.

Vice Superintendent, Tom Fitzpatrick gave a truly inspirational “precongratulations” speech, which was also very touching as well as entertaining at times. Vice Mayor Barbara Pierce also gave a very supporting speech.

President, George Borg did an excellent job of running the meeting with an expanded agenda. He also handed out special “Distinguished Kiwanian” awards to Lee Chic, Lourdes Carini, and Glenda Maguire.

Barbara Liedtke as Co-Chair gave introductions of fellow committee members; Lee Chic, Margie Carrington, Bill Lowell, and Girdie Bernard, who presented awards.

Thanks to the Scholarship Committee: Barbara Liedtke, Co-Chair; Donna Vaillancourt, Co-Chair; Grace Allen, Girdie Bernard, Mary Blank, Kim Bravo, Lourdes Carini, Margie Carrington, Lee Chic, Glenn Lew, Patty McGowan and collaborators; Mike Akana, and Bill Lowell.  A special thanks to Lou and Rose Romano for providing floral arrangements.

The Scholarship Committee came through for the recipients and the club, presenting an event that is well organized, and substantial.   This is what Kiwanis is all about, and how we as club members can help with the growth and future of children in our community who are someday the future of our society.
